A church in Frome is all set to celebrate its 200th anniversary next year, with everyone invited to the celebration’s launch.
Wesley Methodist Church will celebrate its bicentenary with a series of events over 2012. The anniversary will begin with a special service on 8th of January at 10.30am.
Mary King from Wesley Church said, “There will be events going on all throughout next year to celebrate the 200th year since the church was constructed.
“The main anniversary weekend will be from Friday 11th of May until Sunday 13th. Over the course of the weekend there will be a flower festival, and an organ recital with Jonathon Vaughn, who is the assistant organist from Wells Cathedral. He will be accompanied by the England brass quartet. There will also be a recital by sub-organist of Bristol Cathedral, David Bednall.”
The church was constructed on Wesley slope in May 1812, but the Methodist movement has been present in Frome for hundreds of years.
It is a member of the Somerset Mendip circuit of the Methodist Church of Great Britain in the Bristol District under the chairmanship of Rev. Ward Jones.
The church is used as a venue for a variety of community groups including schools, the choral union and a meeting point for climate change group, Sustainable Frome.
