The long-established Frome Selwood Horticulture Society held its 50th Annual Show on 25th August, where more members than ever staged their produce.
Jane Norris reports, “The show has long diversified, and now includes water colour painting, along with home baking, photography, floral art and home grown flowers, fruit and vegetables.
“Cups hold the heritage of the society, and names live on, in some cases, same families still exhibiting. Held in a new location at Selwood School, visitors shared tea and cake before admiring the lines of tables adorned with colour.
“Peter Painter won overall Best Exhibit in Show with his standard fuchsia; David Tuner most points in show; but it was Ken and Stella Cook who won the hearts of us all. Winning most points in vegetables, this amounted to the biggest effort considering our most loyal members’ poor health, as well as the recent prolonged heatwave, which challenged all growers.
“Winners are as published, but Pam Secker, Society President paid tribute to everyone for their continued support. Jean Hopegood, Head of Selwood Academy, acknowledged the pleasure she had in seeing the school used for such events, and looked forward to welcoming us all back next year.
“Congratulations to everyone, floral artists, bakers, growers, novice and experienced alike.
“The FSHS meets on the second Tuesday of the month at Critchill School at 7.30pm. Varied talks, twice-yearly outings and social events are assured, so why not come along.? More details from facebook or Jane Norris on 0777 620 8531.”
