A powerful new drama following two young strangers on a national service mission is set to be shown at the Merlin Theatre as part of the venue’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
The show, ‘At the Edge’ is the newest work from award-winning Merlin Associate Company Black Hound Productions (BHP).
Organisers say, “As rising floodwaters threaten to engulf their world, two young strangers on a national service mission must navigate their differences and form an unexpected bond, discovering the power of humanity in a time.
“The show is a taut, powerfully emotive two-hander exploring climate collapse, moral responsibility, and the human instinct to connect, even as the world fragments.
“Now in its ninth year of creating award-winning, raw, contemporary theatre from its home in Frome, BHP brings its signature blend of intimacy and intensity to a story that feels urgently close to home.”
At the Edge is co-written by BHP Artistic Director Patrick Withey and emerging writer Melissa Dart, and stars Merlin regular Ollie J Edwards and rising international actor András Gönczöl.
“At the Edge is about pressure,” said Patrick. “Two people pushed to their limits, held in a system that’s breaking beneath their feet. It’s about how far people will go for truth, or survival.”
Melissa said, “These characters didn’t create the crisis, but they’re stuck picking up the pieces. Young people today are facing climate collapse, refugee crises and broken systems essentially caused by a government that was chosen for them.”
The show will run on Saturday 30th August at 2pm and 7.30pm, and again on Sunday 31st August at 2pm.
Tickets cost £15 for adults and £12 for concessions. The show is aged 16+. To book tickets visit the Merlin Theatre’s website: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/whats-on/frome/merlin-theatre
