A spectacular Frome Carnival took over the town last week in one of its biggest processions yet.
The colourful event was held on Saturday 20th September and began with the Children’s Carnival in the afternoon, which saw local children, groups, schools and dance and theatre ensembles in fancy dress parade through the roads around Victoria Park.
The evening procession then brought more carnival cheer, with 54 entries, including themed floats, fancy dress and lively music, entertaining crowds which lined the street from the Marston Trading Estate to the town centre.
“We felt it went really well; it was a really good community-spirited carnival,” said one of the organisers, Mandy Morgan. “Everybody on the route was clapping and left in good spirits. There is so much doom and gloom in the world; we all need a lift, and all of our entries were absolutely amazing.
“We are not a big carnival, and we are known for our challenging routes with the trees and the hills, so we admire every walker that completes the route. If you can do Frome Carnival, you can do any carnival. We were also concerned about the new speed humps on The Butts, but it was absolutely fine and the drivers were fantastic.”

Each year the carnival raises funds for local causes. This year’s beneficiaries are WHY (We Hear You), Frome Musical Theatre Company and Keyford Hedgehog Rescue.
To ensure the carnival is as inclusive as possible, there is also a disabled viewing area near The Butts, coordinated by chief marshal Ben. “We are very proud of our chief marshal Ben and his team,” said Mandy.
“We would also like to give a special thanks to Rotary; without them we wouldn’t have a collection. They really do go above and beyond to help us each year.
“And a special thanks to all the volunteers who helped and the entrants who took part in making this one of the biggest carnivals yet.”
