FROME Community Education is to introduce two new one-day creative workshops next term to build on their success in the past year.
Programme manager Pia McGee explains “We have found that many people who would love the opportunity to be more creative either can’t spare the time during the week or simply can’t commit to a 5- or 10-week course. These one-day Saturday courses offer them the chance to indulge their creative side, learn a new skill, or try something completely different.”
Local artist Catherine Beale is set to teach “Harbour Scene in Line and Wash” on Saturday 10th June. Catherine, who normally teaches “Dive into Watercolours!” as a 5-week course is looking forward to demonstrating her techniques on this stand-alone day. She will help students to create a harbourscene complete with colourful boats, water and rocky outcrops whilst sharing tips on composition and colour. This course is suitable for anyone with some painting experience.
Collage Tutor, Jessica Wilker, is also running a new one-day Saturday workshop “Celebrating Playfulness with Collage Art” on 20th May. Students will be encouraged to cut and remount a selection of striking images in any style or design they wish. No previous collage experience is necessary, Jessica will provide the necessary tools and materials and show students how to use them.
Other new, longer courses this term include “Painting that Calms the Soul” which aims to take away the stresses of your day with tutor Jeanette Magson sharing watercolour techniques in a creative and calming environment. Printmaking Play will explore a wide range of printmaking techniques with Michael Gill of the Frome Art School.
There is also “Climate Change, How Does it Concern Me and Mine?” This course, with new tutor, Matthew Bennett will examine key facts about what is driving climate change and will then focus on those of most interest to members of the class, with a specific emphasis on what we can do individually and as a local community to help mitigate the impacts.
Most courses start from Monday 24th April. For more information and to book, visit www.fromecommed.org.uk or contact the Box Office at the Cheese & Grain.
