Frome’s popular free-to-attend Multicultural Festival is back at the Cheese and Grain in November and is calling for people to take part.
Taking place from 12pm to 3pm on Sunday 16th November, the festival includes performances and workshops including music, dance and singing and lots of stalls with different crafts and activities to take part in to learn about the different cultures and traditions.
Organiser Lenka Grimes said, “We are happy to see lots of new faces around the town and would love to welcome new people to take part. Would you like to join in and share your culture with Frome?”
There will also be a variety of delicious home-cooked food to have for lunch, and drinks and cakes on offer from Frome’s international community. There will be small charges to cover costs and people are encouraged to bring cash.
Lenka said, “There has been a great response, with local people from various nationalities eager to showcase aspects of their cultures. The festival is also an opportunity to meet people from your own country, make new friends and learn new things about how people do things differently in other countries.
“Multicultural Frome is pleased to have received funding from Frome Town Council for our work in the town on diversity and inclusion. We work alongside other local organisations: Welcome Hub, Frome Welcomes Refugees, Frome Twinning Association, Somerset Diverse communities, Diversity Voice, Stand Against Racism and Inequality (SARI), Frome’s Anti-Racism Communities group, Arc, as well as local schools and Somerset Council.
“Sadly, we have seen a rise in hate crime, anti-immigrant sentiment and racism, so it is so important that in our community we respond with a show of positivity, showing the huge benefits and joy that a multicultural community brings.”
The event is organised by the charity Young People Frome and donations are welcome on the day.
