An award-winning investigative journalist and acclaimed author is coming to Frome this month to explore the powerful legacy of one of Britain’s most controversial aristocratic families.
Paul Lashmar will be speaking about his latest book, Drax of Drax Hall: How One British Family Got Rich (and Stayed Rich) Through Slavery and Sugar, at an event hosted by Winstone’s Hunting Raven Books on Thursday 26th February at The Archangel in King Street.
In the book, described as “Perfect for fans of David Olusoga”, Paul Lashmar takes a hard look at the Drax family – one of the wealthiest and most influential aristocratic families in the UK – tracing their fortune back to its roots in slavery and the sugar trade and asking important and searching questions about restorative justice, reparations and what we do about fortunes built on blood.
Tickets are £3 and can be purchased online at winstonebooks.co.uk/collections/events or in store at Winstone’s Hunting Raven Books on Cheap Street, Frome.
The talk begins at 7.30pm in the Archangel’s Naval Room, with guests invited to enjoy a drink in the bar downstairs before seating begins at 7.15pm.
