Volunteers are invited to help out at Frome’s community gardens to learn new skills and take care of the space.
Frome has a growing network of community gardens and green spaces, including recently developed spaces like Milk Street Green and the community woodland at Spring Gardens.
There are also established areas like those at the Key Centre and Broadway Community Gardens, with a new space under way at St John’s, behind Frome Football Club.
Mayor of Frome, Cllr Mark Dorrington said, “Not everyone has their own garden or outdoor space, but everyone benefits from time outside. Sometimes we lose the habit of heading to the park when swings, slides and roundabouts lose their appeal and at the same time, perhaps without noticing, we lose the benefit of being out in nature. Our community gardens offer the chance to relax and meet people, perhaps learn some new skills and take care of the space together.
“If you do still like swings, slides and roundabouts not to mention sandpits and stepping logs, I’m happy to say that we have thought of you too. When I visit the updated play areas at Tower View and St John’s in the coming months, it will be with two hats on as your mayor and lead councillor for open spaces. There are also plans for more picnic tables and sociable seating to make these spaces welcoming and enjoyable, so do take a moment to visit and see them for yourselves.”
Volunteers are welcome to join Frome Town Council at St John’s new community garden on Mondays between 10am and 1pm in term time. If you would like to get involved with planting and developing the new community garden email Emily Osler at eosler@fromwtowncouncil.gov.uk.
Volunteers meet at Broadway Community Gardens on Wednesdays from 2pm to 4pm and Sundays from 10am to 12pm – all welcome.
Contact Liz Stone on lstone@frometowncouncil.gov.uk to get involved with the community garden at The Key Centre on Thursdays from 11am to 1pm.
