A bridge club in Frome is launching a new season of beginner lessons this autumn, starting with a demonstration event at Frome Library next month.
The club will be running an ‘All about Bridge’ event at Frome Library on Saturday 5th September to give an insight into the game for anyone interested in learning to play it.
The event will consist of a simple bridge demo session where four people will be playing the game, along with lots of information about bridge and its history. It will run from 9.45am to 2pm.
Members of the club shared their skills at the town council’s play event at the Key Centre on 5th August, marking National Play Day 2026. It was the first in a series of initiatives by the club to showcase the game ahead of its new teaching year in October.
Club member Sarah Miller said, “Bridge is a fun and social game, which appeals to all ages, providing a perfect balance of entertainment and logic. It’s great for the brain and is not difficult to learn, just requiring practice to become familiar with the basic rules.”
As of October, the club’s weekly teaching sessions will take place at Wesley Hall, BA11 1HA – on Tuesday evenings and Thursday mornings, depending on the level of interest.
Teaching will provide a comprehensive introduction to the game for those who have never played it before, as well as top-up lessons for those with some previous knowledge. No card game experience is required and the sessions – including play practice – are an opportunity to meet new people whilst acquiring a skill that provides an excellent mental workout. The 10 weeks of teaching up until Christmas will cost £50; lessons will continue in the New Year for £3 per lesson. Coffee, tea and biscuits are provided.
