Organisers of Frome Window Wanderland have announced that the windows of Frome will once again light up in 2024 and they are asking everyone to put Friday 1st March to Monday 4th March into their diaries.
The popular event – which sees houses, schools and businesses around Frome illuminate their windows with decorations, pictures, balloons, perfor- mances or anything else they can think of – did not run in 2023 due to other commitments for organisers Lisa Glass and Claire Beale. Now the team say they are delighted to be handing over the reins to a new group of Frome Window Wanderland enthusiasts.
Katie Marshall, Tori Allison and Susie Jenkins Temple are all huge fans of the event and very excited to be stepping in with the organisation. “We’ve all had such fantastic experiences both taking part in the event and walking around town to see all the brilliant creations that others have come up with,” says Katie.
“It’s a wonderful celebration of all the creativity and fun in our community that really brings the town together. We knew we had to help keep it going and are really pleased that Lisa and Claire have handed us the reins of this lovely event that they’ve worked so hard to build up since 2018”.
Window Wanderlands happen nationwide and are a festival of light and colour, where people transform their neighbourhood into a magical outdoor gallery of unique displays in their windows. Frome was one of the first towns outside of Bristol to embrace the concept and enthusiasm for the event has always been high.
“We’ve had literally thousands of people take part in the event over the years,” says the original organiser Lisa Glass. “It’s really taken off in Frome, we had over 200 sign-ups in 2022. I think that’s mostly down to the strong sense of community we have in Frome, and the fact that so many people like to be creative or just send out messages of hope and positivity to their neighbours. I’m so glad we’ve found such a great team to take it onwards into 2024.”
“One of the best things about Frome Window Wanderland is absolutely anyone can take part, you don’t have to be arty at all,” added Susie. “Absolutely anything goes – you can have a disco in your living room window, fill your window with balloons, project a video, or just light a candle. It’s a chance to share joy, beauty or absolute silliness with your neighbours in Frome.”
“Getting to walk about the town to see what everyone has done is mindblowing,” continues Tori. “It’s such a joy to take it all in, from the most incredibly detailed collages to the super cute drawings the kids put up, everyone just has a go. It’s also great the way it gets people talking – ‘have you seen the one down there? You have to see the octopus on Whittox Lane etc’. It’s the epitome of what the Frome community is all about.”
A series of workshops will be held in the run-up to the event to help anyone who wants to take part come up with ideas and get advice and assistance with how to create it. Some of the workshop will be family friendly while other evening workshops will be aimed at adults.
