FROME Town Band is appealing for help to find themselves a new home to rehearse and store their instruments.
The group also want to hear from anyone who is interested in joining the band or their 100 Club, which helps to raise money to purchase instruments.
Chairman Matthew Woolford said, “Frome Town Band has been based in its current rented building off Randolph Road for many happy years.
“However, we now are now exploring other potential venues in Frome to see if there is one that would offer the band more modern and improved facilities, that will help the band to grow and develop.”
The band meet on Wednesdays, with a training band from 6-7pm, which is open to anyone over the age of 8 who wants to learn how to play a brass instrument. The main band meet from 7-9pm. Band member Kirstie Jones said, “It’s a fantastic opportunity. It costs £5 a month to join and members are taught how to read music, so don’t worry if you have never played before. Members are also given a uniform and an instrument on loan.
“We currently have members from the age of 8 through to people in their seventies. We are an inclusive community group and we want to provide opportunities for young people to try something different or for older people to learn a new skill and meet new people.
“We also run a 100 Club where members pay £1 for a month to enter a monthly draw. The prizes are £25 each month and £150, £50 and £25 in December.
“The 100 club gave a cheque of £700 at this year’s AGM to pay for new instruments. This money generates income to buy the instruments which helps provide musical education to children and adults who cannot afford to have private lessons.”
