FAIR Frome raised over £2,000 during their latest fundraising weekend, ‘Let’s Celebrate’ which will go towards helping individuals and families in Frome.
Fair Frome helps individuals and families in Frome who are struggling to make ends meet and runs the food bank, furniture bank, community lunches and other practical schemes in Frome to help those most in need.
Fair Frome purposely raises most of its income locally as a way of engaging the local community, with its aim of providing local solutions to local problems.
During the charity’s recent fundraising weekend, they asked local pubs, cafés and restaurants to put publicity material and donation envelopes on their tables, inviting their patrons to donate to the charity. They also involved local community groups to raise funds and promote the charity’s work amongst their membership. The public was invited to join their birthday celebrations to promote the work of the charity and raise funds.
Altogether over 30 local restaurants took part as well as street parties and other events. The charity also opened its Food Bank for people to see the work that goes on year around.
Judith Loughlin, Fair Frome trustee and fundraiser for the charity said, “The weekend was a huge success. Organised by our wonderful volunteers, we found the response from local cafes and restaurants overwhelming.
“Many wanted to continue the fundraising after the event had finished and we really would like to offer our thanks to them and their staff and all the other people who took part in raising funds over the weekend.
“Along with our recent partnership with Bistro Lotte on our Holiday Hunger summer scheme, this has not only raised valuable cash for Fair Frome, but has also widened local knowledge of the work we do and local need.”
Local restaurants that took part include: Bath Arms, Black Swan Café, The Cornerhouse, Cross Keys, Farleigh Farm Shop, Fat Radish, The Foresters Beckington, Full Moon Rudge, George Coffee Shop, George Hotel, High Pavement, Horse and Groom East Woodlands, La Strada, The Lighthouse, Masons Arms, Mells Barn and Café, Mill at Rode, Palmer Street Bottle, River House, Royal Oak Corsley, Talbot Mells, Thai Kitchen, Three Horseshoes Chapmanslade, Walled Garden Mells and the Woolpack Beckington. The Garden Café gave a generous food donation and Gracewell Care Homes organised a tea dance and raffle.
