A local resident is hosting a musicals concert next month to raise funds for a charity supporting children with cancer and to celebrate his 70th birthday.
The Magic Musicals concert will be held at Rook Lane Chapel on Saturday 5th December in aid of Children with Cancer UK. It will feature headline act The Vixens, supported by musical theatre performers from across Somerset.
The event is being hosted by Andrew Carpenter, who is due to turn 70 later in the month. A lifelong Frome resident, Andrew is an active member of the town and has worked with the local stage and theatre community for more than four decades. He has also served as a trustee of both the Memorial and Merlin theatres.
Andrew is also known in Frome for his work as DJ Andrew St John, having supported well-known names including Noel Edmonds and Steve Wright when the Radio 1 Roadshow was held locally.
He said his birthday was a good opportunity to raise funds for good causes.
“I have chosen to support Children with Cancer because my middle son James is an ambassador for the charity, which he has worked with before,” said Andrew. “James is also running the London Marathon next year for the charity, so I wanted to support something that would help him.”
As well as his work in stage and theatre, Andrew has chaired the Community Benefit Society at Badgers Hill and worked as a local referee for 40 years.
He said: “I was born in Frome; I have been very active here. I like a party and I could have taken the easy way out and just held a concert but I thought it was an opportunity to raise money for charity.”
The concert will run from 7.30pm to 10pm. Admission is free, but Andrew is asking people to make a donation to Children with Cancer UK.
