CHRISTMAS tree growers are preparing for a busy season and local grower, Osborne’s Christmas Trees, has lots of choice on offer.
Owner, John Osborne said, “I started growing Christmas trees in 1982 as a hobby, alongside a full time job as a forester. To maintain a continuous supply, trees are planted every year for a minimum of 6 years to reach a popular sized tree of 6ft. During that time, the trees are regularly weeded and pruned annually to achieve the desirable Christmas tree shape.
“Today, the hobby has extended to include my wife Elizabeth and sons James and Alex, we also employ other staff as required. The Osborne’s now have 60,000 trees growing, including five different species of all sizes, up to at least 10ft, with some larger individual trees also supplied.
“Our quality freshly-cut trees are available from our retail sites at Rode near Frome, Butleigh near Glastonbury and on the Fosseway near Colerne, 7 miles north-east of Bath. We have a wide range of species and sizes up to 12ft.”
