THE children at Hayesdown First School have returned following the lockdown and have brand new wooden play equipment to play on.
The school reports, “The exciting new trim trail in the playground replaced the old equipment which had rotted over the years. The new equipment, supplied by DBD Play Ltd, took two weeks to install and was ready in perfect time for all children returning to school.
“Louise Middle, member of the PTA, attended the opening ceremony as the PTA had generously donated £5,000 towards the cost. Ian Groves, director of IG Sports coaches, who works with children at Hayesdown and across Frome, joined the children to officially open the trim trail and cut the ribbon.
“The children had been fully involved with the development of the project, helping to put together a wish list and making decisions about the final design.”
Speaking to the children Ian said, “It is important for everyone to be active and get moving, especially after lockdown. This wonderful equipment will really support the children to get physical and provide challenges outdoors that they will really enjoy. I know the school places high value on physical activity and the new trim trail will be enjoyed by all the children.”
Headteacher, Julia Battersby, praised the children’s contributions, saying, “Not only did the children have the final say in decision making, showing great responsibility and enthusiasm, but they were also actively involved in raising money to fund the equipment by taking part in a sponsored steeplechase.
“Our school values of being happy and healthy are really shining through as children use the equipment at playtimes and lunchtimes.
“I am thrilled with the final outcome and pleased that it will be part of our school for years to come.”
“It’s brilliant because you can get really high and I love climbing” said Sam in Year 4. Archie agreed saying, “There are so many different things to do on it – it’s FANTASTIC!”
