£42,000 of Community Grants awarded

OVER £42,000 in grants has been awarded to local groups and organisations by Frome Town Council. 

Applicants from Frome Cricket Club to the Merlin Theatre, from Purple Elephant, Active and In Touch and Frome Town Band, all received grants and groups such as Walkers are Welcome received a smaller Mayor’s Grant. 

The council reports, “Last year the Community Grants scheme was redesigned and community groups across Frome were encouraged to apply. 

“The new scheme provides a more streamlined approach, it also offers support from Frome Town Council staff in the application process which can be off-putting for some applicants.

“Following the first round, the Grants Advisory Panel assessed all the applications and awarded a total of £42,593. This means that over 24 community groups have received grants in this round.

“The next Community Grants round is now open for applications and will close on Thursday 20th May. 

“Applications are invited for projects of benefit to Frome residents that need funding of between £300 – £3,000.”

To apply, community groups must be a not-for-profit organisation who can demonstrate:

• Improved physical, mental, emotional health, and environmental or economic outcomes

• Direct, positive, impact for Frome residents

Cllr Mark Dorrington said, “We’re really pleased with how the first round of the newly designed scheme went, and we want more community groups and organisations to apply in this next round.
