FROME Voices is back!
After many months of lockdown and dealing with the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the choir is delighted to announce that they will be performing two Concerts of Remembrance on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th November (Remembrance Sunday).
“Both concerts will be at Christ Church, Frome. The Saturday concert at 7.30pm will be repeated on Sunday at 4.30pm, to allow for social distancing of both choir and audience,” said Jane Talbot on behalf of the choir. “The theme of the music will be ‘Remembrance’ and the programme has been specially chosen to reflect aspects of this theme in music that is moving, inspiring and comforting in different ways. It will feature a variety of choral and solo pieces from major favourite works, from composers such as Mendelssohn, Brahms, Handel and Karl Jenkins.
“In March 2020, the well-established choir had been practising hard for a large-scale presentation of Handel’s Messiah in the Cheese and Grain. Unfortunately, it came just at the point when the country was forced to shut down, so had to be abandoned. At the time, the hope was to reschedule the concert for March 2021….which came and went, still with no possibility of staging the event. Finally, after so many months, the choir has been able to rehearse together again, though with reduced numbers to ensure the safety of all. After missing the pleasure of music making, the choir was determined to present a public ‘come back’ concert – so this forthcoming event is the result. Fully aware of the difficult times that so many people have experienced during this period, the choir decided on a performance that would be sensitive to the loss and sadness felt by many in our community, particularly on the weekend of Remembrance Sunday, while also presenting some wonderful and uplifting music that resonates with strength and hope.
“The concert will be conducted by Frome Voices’ well-known musical director, Alan Burgess. The choir is also delighted to welcome Stephanie Collishaw as the soprano soloist and Liz Kozlowski as pianist. A musical treat is promised!”
Audience numbers will be restricted to allow for safe seating for all. Tickets will be available, payable with cash only, at the door or in advance from choir members.
