LAUGHTER has been scientifically proved to not only relieve tension, relax muscles, boost the immune system, release endorphins, increase blood flood and diffuse anger but a study also showed that just 10 minutes of the giggles can burn about 40 calories!
So it’s off the Merlin Theatre for a workout this Spring as the venue’s programme is packed with comedy.
Kicking off the hilarity are multi-award winning, fast-paced, national-touring theatre company New Old Friends who bring, for the first time to Frome, their comedy thriller Crimes, Camera, Action.
Set in the golden era of Hollywood, this super slick and speedy show is crammed with knife-sharp visual gags and murderously bad puns as it hits town for 3 performances, including a matinee, on 11th and 12th February.
Next up, and just announced, is well-loved comedian, broadcaster, Private Eye medical correspondent and author Dr Phil Hammond. His show on Friday 4th March ask such burning questions as, ‘Can we have five portions of fun a day and a fully functioning liver?’
Help Dr Phil figure out if we survived a pandemic then can we survive anything – or at least die laughing!
And fantastic news for stand-up fans as The Merlin plays host to a brand-new regular comedy club.
Chuckl’s Frome Comedy Club arrives in town for its opening night on 19th March. Scheduled to take place every-other-month, the first acts to hit the stage this season will include Laura Lexx. Famous as much for her viral Twitter thread claims to be married to Jurgen Klopp as for her appearances on Live At The Apollo, Mock The Week, Dave, Comedy Central’s Roast and recently with Jason Manford, Laura hails from Somerset and is one of the funniest women comics on the circuit today.
Laura will be headlining the line-up of four comedians including Chortle Award-winner and Have I Got News For You and 8 Out Of 10 Cats popular panellist, the surrealist Canadian favourite, Tony Law.
