FROME Lions recently donated £1,250 to the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) – money from the club’s latest annual haybale fundraiser.
Carrying out one of her first duties as new club president, Beverley Windley presented a cheque to Pam Wills, regional manager of RABI.
A spokesperson for the Lions said, “Every year for the last 30 years the Lions have sought the help of the farming community in Frome and surrounding villages by asking them to donate bales of hay or straw, or by making a financial donation.
“A team of Lions visit the farms in the autumn to collect the hay, which is then sold on to farms who require additional amounts or who have not made any and the proceeds are donated to a chosen charity.
“This year’s charity was the RABI.”
RABI are a national charity that provides local support to the farming community across England and Wales.
Established in 1860, they have been offering guidance, financial support and practical care to farming people of all ages for generations. Confidential support is available to those who currently work within agriculture and also to those who are no longer able to work due to ill-health, accident or age.
