FROME bowler, Duncan McGovern, was recently crowned Men’s Single Champion in Wiltshire and has earned himself a spot in the National Finals.
Duncan has played many years in Somerset for both Bath and Frome Selwood bowls clubs, and following his Wiltshire win, he will now feature at the National Singles Finals at Leamington Spa which is scheduled for Thursday 8th September to Friday 9th September. Duncan currently bowls for Spencer Moulton Bowls Club in Bradford-on-Avon.
The club say, “A last 16 win at Westlecot in Swindon and quarter final win at Royal Wootton Bassett took Duncan to last weekend’s semi and then to the final at Devizes in which he excelled himself to get the better of club-mate Graham Shadwell. The National Finals at Leamington Spa now beckon, where Graham will also feature, and in the Men’s Pairs too.”
Graham Shadwell will also represent Wiltshire in the Singles Finals and there is the possibility that they could face off against each other.
Duncan explained, “Were we both to win our first two games, we would meet each other in the third game on the 8th in the last 16, with the winner playing three more games if they reached the final.”
