Active and InTouch volunteers and Frome Medical Practice staff gave their time to steward at Glastonbury Festival on 23rd to 25th June.

The team of 12 volunteers stewarded at the iconic Arcadia stage – a giant metal spider which ran on recycled energy from waste cooking oil – with DJs playing electronic music. The team comprised of; Sophia, Benjy, Fiona, Tom, Laura, Mark, Hannah, Debbie, Benjamin, Tristan, Claire and Radeck.
Admin volunteer Patricia Baker said, “A large percentage of their time was taken up with stewarding in various guises, but there was still time available to see some of the bands which included such performers as the Arctic Monkeys, Guns and Roses and, of course, Elton John, for whom this might well be his last ever public appearance in England. They also enjoyed rather more alternative performers including the Nova Twins, Louis Cole, Working Men’s Club and the Chemical Brothers.”
It was volunteer leader Lorna’s first time at Glastonbury and she said she had not really been prepared for the scale of the event. “It was great to meet the other lovely team members as well as a fantastic opportunity not only to see a lot of the groups on offer but also to spread news of the work by Active and In Touch supporting people who feel lonely and isolated in Frome and the surrounding villages,” she said.
Patricia said, “The stewarding role may have been challenging at times, but overall, it had been a brilliant experience and Lorna wanted to give a massive ‘thank you’ to Holly, the onsite supervisor, for her support, first class organisational skills and for answering all the questions asked of her. From their enthusiastic response to the week, it sounds as if the team is already anticipating their return next year!
“Active and In Touch’s director of service Lisa Cooke gave sincere thanks to Emily and Michael Eavis and the Glastonbury festival team for their ongoing support to the charity. It is greatly appreciated by staff, trustees, volunteers and members alike.”
