THE local community in and around Frome came out in force to support last month’s Poppy Appeal as a record £41,500 was raised for the Royal British Legion – smashing the previous record of £32,347, raised in 2021.
This record amount raised is also an impressive 30% increase on money raised last year. All donations raised during the Poppy Appeal help to provide support to serving and ex-serving members of the British Armed Forces, their families and dependants who are experiencing hardship, or dealing with the effects of injuries or bereavement.
Richard Aspray, the local Poppy Appeal organiser said, “We had a larger number of volunteers this year, which enabled us to collect donations in more locations. I would like to thank all of our volunteers, as well as the supermarkets, businesses, organisations and schools that took part in this year’s appeal.
“The Royal British Legion’s work is entirely dependent on the generous support of the public and every donation for a poppy-related item makes a difference to the lives of people in our armed forces community. Frome has a fantastic reputation for raising money to support good causes, but this can only happen with help from our local community and with the cooperation of our local businesses.”
