A local action group, aimed at ‘changing the world’ and making life better for local people is to launch in Frome.
It’s part of the Campfire Convention movement which is spreading across the country by setting up local ‘Beacon’ groups. Each Beacon aims to make at least one ‘call to action’ for social change each meeting; for example to tackle homelessness, mini fundraising festivals, or work with food banks.
The aim of the movement is to help conquer local and national issues, whilst being part of a network of ideas from similar groups across the UK.
Members use social networking to actively make a change at a local level and Beacons become regional hubs for people seeking new ways of developing ideas and making change happen.
Campfire’s first Beacons are already having an effect. The Bournemouth Beacon is already feeding and clothing local homeless and has pledged to create an organic farm, a food co-operative and a mini festival.
Campfire Convention has just formed a new Beacon in Frome and is inviting everyone to join who is concerned about how people can change the world for the better together, and to find ways to work together and build resources to make those changes count.
There is a meeting of the new Frome Beacon at The Three Swans on King Street on Wednesday 21st March at 7.30pm, with a £1 suggested donation.
Founder and firestarter, Pete Lawrence, has recently moved to Frome and invites all to join him for an exploratory meeting to look at what skills and passions can be brought to the table and what might be achieved together – and to find out what is already happening in Frome.
Frome, already a hotbed of creativity and fresh thinking, held its first Campfire event last May at Rye Bakery, hosted by Peter and Annabelle Macfadyen.
