THE Frome Kindness Festival has announced its seven-day programme of events including the chance for people to have afternoon tea with BBC Radio 4 broadcaster and author, Claudia Hammond.
A festival spokesperson said, “There is something for everyone to enjoy! Including a very special afternoon tea with BBC’s award-winning broadcaster and author Claudia Hammond who is visiting the festival to discuss her latest book, Keys to Kindness on Friday 10th March.
“From Sunday 5th March to Saturday 11th March, the town will come alive with activity, and quite possibly be the kindest place on the planet. Each day is themed, championing a different aspect of kindness and full to the brim with screenings, workshops, celebrities and joy.
“The festival opens with a Kindness Takeover of the Frome Independent Market on Sunday 5th March; expect whacky decorations, crafts, flash mob dancing and a specially curated kindness music stage.
“Every evening of the Frome Kindness Festival there is bookable events both large and intimate. On Monday 6th March, a special screening of Mission: Joy will take place at The Good Heart; this uplifting and hilarious film takes an in-depth look at the friendship between Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama and their efforts to live with joy in the face of adversity. As part of the Science of Kindness on Tuesday 7th March, Frome hosts its first Kindness Lecture with Professor Robin Banjaree at Frome Town Hall.
“Kindness in social media (and the lack of it!) is the theme for Wednesday’s Kind Words event and will host a special panel in discussion at the Town Hall. On Thursday 9th March Kindness to the Planet sees a Give & Take extravaganza at the Silk Mill organised by Frome Families For Future, and on Friday 10th March Kindness and Giving sees the Merlin Theatre turn into Paris for a secret cinema style screening of Amelie complete with fancy dress, live music and unexpected pop-up theatrics. The week comes to a close with a special celebration of The Kindness Challenge at 3pm at The Bennett Centre.
“There are numerous activities taking place during the daytime such as: mass mindfulness sessions, a workshop exploring kindness and Daoism and, just announced, a very special afternoon tea with Claudia Hammond who will discuss her latest book Keys to Kindness on Friday 10th March. If that’s not enough to whet your appetite then look no further than the many Kindness Challenge offerings, where you can join us outside the library to engage in acts of kindness.
“Litter picks, making bird feeders, signing up for blood donation and much, much more. Look out for our very special Caravan of Kindness touring Frome, promoting the Kindness Challenge and housing micro exhibitions, one on one musical gigs and a pop-up photo booth.
“So put on your kindness hat and join in with the fun. Full programme available online at https://www.thegoodheart.uk/2023-programme-tickets Many events free, others pay-what-you-decide from £1 – £15.”
