ABBA – Forever, presented by Sweeney Entertainments, is one of the UK’s leading international tribute shows, and theatre audiences from across Great Britain and Sweden have long enjoyed this superb recreation of possibly the world’s greatest pop band.

The unique Abba sound is replicated with an incredible attention to detail, using a six-piece band featuring electric and acoustic guitars, keyboards and piano, drums and bass guitar. Two outstanding Abba girls complete the line-up, adding the essential glitz and glamour to a well-polished and gently humorous show.  The superb lyrics penned by Benny and Bjorn are sung in wonderful harmony by all six performers on stage.

Dynamic non-stop choreography, stunning visuals, top-class musicianship and an all live performance ensures that the ABBA Forever show captivates audiences from the opening refrain to the final sing-along chorus of this two-hour spectacular.

Sweeney Entertainments, co-founded by Julie and Peter Sweeney, has been providing a wide repertoire of top quality touring shows for theatre and corporate events for over 15 years both in the UK and internationally. 2017 was the company’s strongest year to date with more shows touring than ever before and 2018 brings even more new shows and UK tour dates.

Julie said “Abba Forever is a great concert experience for all ages, authentically reproducing some of the best pop hits of all time.”

Jane Ellis, who performs as Agnetha in the show said, “I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to perform some of the best songs of all time and tour some of the UK’s most prestigious venues and beautiful theatres. We play all the big Abba hits and more, even putting some surprise album tracks in there for the most ardent Abba fan.”

Packed full of excitement and exuberance, Abba Forever will take you on a journey back to the 1970s and guaranteed to get you up and dancing in the aisles.

Abba Forever will be appearing at Frome Memorial Theatre, Frome, on Saturday 10th February at 7.30pm. Ticket prices are £20.

Contact the theatre box office on 01373 462795.

  • Frome author’s Dickens novel attracts TV and film interest

A Frome grandmother who faced years of rejection from literary agents is celebrating the success of her debut novel – and the prospect of it being adapted for screen.

Author Annie Elliot has seen her book, Mr & Mrs Charles Dickens – Her Story – “So the world may know he loved me once”, win praise from high-profile figures including broadcaster Jenni Murray, novelist Fay Weldon and BAFTA Fellow Andrew Davies. A London agent has now expressed interest in the film and television rights.

Despite numerous setbacks on her journey to publication, Annie said she never gave up hope of becoming a published author.

The novel focuses on Catherine Dickens, the wife of Charles Dickens, whose story Annie felt had been overlooked. Inspired by reading Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell, she began researching Catherine’s life and said she was shocked by what she discovered.

  • Upstairs of former Halifax building could become flats

An application to turn the upstairs of the former Halifax building into six residential flats has been submitted to Somerset Council.

The application, submitted by Criterion Property Investments Ltd, proposes five one-bedroom flats and one studio flat at 1 to 3a The Bridge. The ground floor will retain two retail units, which are currently vacant.

The Design and Access Statement says, “The proposals have been carefully designed to ensure minimal intervention with the existing listed building. The proposal includes the introduction of a single-storey extension to the rear, over the existing modern flat roof structure, to provide living accommodation for a new residential unit with associated new balcony area overlooking the River Frome.”

Frome Town Council has supported the application and welcomed the building being brought back into use after it has been vacant since July 2024.

  • Kate Bush flash mob and town-wide drone photo

Residents are invited to dress as Kate Bush and join a joyful flash mob up Catherine Hill as part of the Frome Connects project this month.

Inspired by the resurgence of Kate Bush’s iconic song ‘Running Up That Hill’, the event on Saturday 30th May, will feature simple choreography from the original 80s video and will be led by Ginny Adams of Mojo Moves.

At 12.15pm, St John’s Church bells will ring out with ‘Running Up That Hill’, performed by Tony Hodges, before local photographer Chris Bailey captures a town-wide drone shot at approximately 12.30pm.

Participants are encouraged to wear grey and optional shaggy brown wigs although organisers stress that no dance experience or actual running is required.

  • Frome woman takes on open water swim challenge for women’s health

A local woman with endometriosis is aiming to complete nine open water swims this month, reflecting the average nine years it takes to get a diagnosis in the UK.

Poppy Taylor, a PhD student, started the challenge just six weeks after having surgery for endometriosis.

Endometriosis is a whole-body inflammatory condition in which cells similar to those lining the womb grow elsewhere. Symptoms can include heavy, painful periods, pelvic pain, bladder and bowel issues, fertility issues and fatigue. There is currently no cure.

Poppy said, “I first saw a GP about my symptoms at 19 and, as these got worse, I spent years going back and forth but with no answers. At one point I was misdiagnosed with IBS and essentially told I was making it up. It wasn’t until I was 26 when a scan for another health issue found endometriomas (ovarian cysts caused by endometriosis) that I was eventually put on the path for surgery.

  • Electric bus launched in Frome

A new, 16-seat electric bus has been launched in Frome providing the town with the latest generation of passenger vehicles.

Somerset Council has launched its first public service electric bus with the 30 service in Frome. The vehicle is low floor, easily accessible, wheelchair friendly and comes with zero emissions.

The new vehicle complements the fleet of electric First buses already running on routes across the county. Somerset Council says it is a ‘lifeline’ for residents needing to reach town centre services and being electric, is more sustainable and less reliant on fossil fuels.
