THREE teams of Frome firefighters will abseil down Cranmore Tower to help raise funds for an African children’s charity and everyone is invited to get involved.
The charity SOS Africa is calling on local people to take part in the event, where you can either abseil from 100ft or the full 148ft on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th of September.
Over the next five years, SOS Africa will be raising funds to build a new school in the north-west province of South Africa.
Matthew Crowcombe, who founded the charity nine years ago said, “On the day of the abseil, people can enter teams of up to six people, or you can go it alone.
“We held a similar event last year, around Christmas time, which helped raise funds for a new minibus. Around 100 people turned up on the day, but we’re hoping to have at least double this in September.
“We have three firefighter teams from Frome entering, one from Shepton Mallet, one from Glastonbury and hopefully one from Wells.
“SOS Africa is really starting to grow now. We are looking to setting up a shop in Shepton Mallet and expand our central office.”
