THE sun was shining brightly for the recent official opening of the Active and In Touch Café at Frome Medical Practice (FMP).
The event saw patients, visitors, FMP staff members and dignitaries welcomed by Active and In Touch trustees and staff.
Volunteer Patricia Barker said, “It was a great pleasure to see Frome’s Mayor councillor Philip Campagna and his wife, Ellie, along with Frome’s Great British Bake-Off finalist Brendan Lynch there in support of the happy occasion, which was captured for wider circulation by Positive TV.
“A number of guests were interviewed and identified the difference the café would make to them and how it might impact upon their lives. Responses here were many and varied including, ‘a place to meet people’, ‘a welcome cuppa and cake after a medical appointment’, ‘a place to pop in to after we have been walking locally’, and ‘it makes the practice feel even more welcoming’, whilst the medical staff were happy to see the return of being able to place orders for food and beverages to see them through their working day!
“After the official opening, where a pink ribbon was cut by Brendan and Karen Nolan from Assura (FMP Landlords) everyone was able to celebrate with a drink, plus sandwiches and savouries, from James Morrison Catering, and a slice of the amazing cake which had been baked and beautifully iced by Magda, Active and In Touch’s new café manager.”
Active and In Touch’s director of service, Lisa Cooke said, “The event, which lasted into the early afternoon was truly a relaxed and happy occasion. A huge thank you to all who attended. Not only will the café be serving great coffee and cake but will also be a hub to meet friends or to sit with happy thoughts.”
Since its opening, there have been many comments posted about the café including one from a volunteer who said, “Just had a cuppa at the café. It is buzzing! 12 peeps having coffee and a lovely atmosphere. Made my heart sing!”
Volunteer Patricia Barker said. “Please do visit and judge for yourself – you can be sure of lovely food and drink, plus a very warm welcome from Magda and Emily, who also works there.”
