Staff at the Coventry Building Society in Frome have presented another cheque to the Frome-based charity, Active and In Touch, for £1,360, which was raised by their Christmas Raffle. The building society’s summer raffle raised £580 for the charity.
In the Christmas raffle, Jenny Kettle, customer service assistant, said that over 60 prizes had been won by lucky residents of Frome and the wider community, many donated by local businesses.
These included a day pass for Longleat, several bottles of wine, confectionery from local bakers, Sanctuary Spa sets, numerous vouchers for train and coach rides, as well as a Fire tablet, from the Coventry Building Society itself.
Active and In Touch said they are delighted to receive this generous cheque which will help combat loneliness in Frome and the surrounding villages by providing a befriending visit every week for a year to six members, or a month of weekly visits for 72 members.
Conversations with members of the charity have shown how beneficial they find these visits are, with one commenting that ‘they are my lifeline, they get me out and about again’.
Coventry staff members Ramzan, Anne, Tom, Jack and Jenny presented the cheque to Dougie Brown, AIT director of services and Peter Baker, a volunteer. Dougie thanked them, along with other colleagues Claire, Sue, Julie and Mary, for their hard work in arranging the raffle and their ongoing and much welcomed support.
