AIR cadets from Frome recently took part in a regional parade in Taunton to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Air Training Corps organisation.
Cadets from 1031 (Frome) Squadron joined over 300 others from squadrons from around the Devon and Somerset Wing for a parade through Taunton on Saturday 11th June, to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Air Training Corps organisation, which was founded in 1941.
Cadets from around the south west mustered in Taunton city centre and marched behind the Wing Band to Vivary Park where a drum head service was given and the cadets were addressed by the wing padre. After the parade a flypast was made by a Spitfire and Hurricane.
1031 (Frome) Squadron is actively seeking adult help. If you think you could offer time or skills to the squadron, please contact the Chairman Linda Allen at allenlinda178@gmail.com
The Air Defence Cadet Corps (ADCC) was founded in 1938 to encourage young people to consider a career in aviation.
During the Second World War cadets were sent to work on RAF stations, then at the end of 1940 the Government realised the value of the cadet force and took control of the ADCC, reorganised it and renamed it the Air Training Corps.
You can find more information about the roles available for adult volunteers on the ATC website
