The next lecture by the Frome Society will focus on Bath as a World Heritage Site, recognised as one of the ‘Great Spa Towns of Europe.’
The talk will be held on Saturday 29th November, delivered by Paul Simons in the Assembly Rooms, at the rear of the Frome Memorial Theatre.
Organisers say, “In July 2021, UNESCO selected Bath, along with eleven other towns, to form a new multi-site inscription of the Great Spa Towns of Europe, but it took ten years of research and documentation to get there. In 2011, Paul was appointed Secretary General of the UNESCO project for the Great Spa Towns of Europe and during the following ten years steered the project to achievement.
“Paul will describe what it takes to be accepted as a great spa town, including the complex process by which UNESCO evaluated and judged Bath’s nomination, and how Bath was able to justify its second accolade as a World Heritage Site, as one of the most internationally famous historic spa towns of Europe.
“Paul has spent over five decades in heritage management and historic building projects such as Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and was Project Director for Thermae Bath Spa in 1998. He is currently Chair of World Heritage UK, a Trustee of the Oxford Literary Festival and a member of the Advisory Panel of the Railway Heritage Trust.”
Frome Society’s lectures start at 2.30pm. Visitors are welcome but are asked to pay an entry fee of £5.
It is advisable to book a place through the Society’s website due to the popularity of the talks www.fsls.org.uk
