The month of May has proved to be a tough, but rewarding, time for 16 year old Amelia Dyer from Frome as she has spent the month juggling the demands of her GCSEs with her shooting commitments.
At the beginning of May, Amelia took part in the English Championships at the National Shooting Centre at Bisley, Surrey. Over the three day competition she competed in 10m Air Rifle, 50m Prone Rifle and 50m 3 Position Rifle disciplines, achieving new personal best scores in each match and also taking 3rd place in the Junior Women’s 50m Prone Rifle match.
Amelia is a member of the Frome Smallbore Rifle Club (shooting Air Rifle) and Sedgemoor Target Shooting Club (shooting 50m Rifle) and represented both clubs in the Somerset Leagues.
She was pleased to learn that she came 1st in Division 7 of the Individual League and won the Curry Rivel Junior Cup (in rifle shooting) and came 2nd in Division 1 of the individual Air Rifle competition. Her overall scores in the Air Rifle competition also awarded her the title of ‘Most Improved Junior’.
Amelia, who trains with the GB Junior Target Rifle Squad and Team England National Shooting Academy, is now preparing for her next major competition, the British International 50m Rifle Championships. She said, “I’m really pleased with the way that my shooting is steadily improving. I have now added the 50m 3 position discipline into my repertoire and, hopefully, the 50m Championships will see another improvement in those scores as it will be only the 3rd time I have competed in that discipline in a major competition.”
