Edventure Frome and Frome Town Council have partnered to host a “Local Entrepreneurs Forum for Frome” (LEF) – saying ‘it sounds grander than it really is!’ “In reality,” they say, “ it’s an opportunity for people in Frome to come together to support to support local, social, sustainable projects that we want to see succeed in our town.
“LEFs were pioneered in by the Transition Network in Totnes. Since their annual LEF was launched, 31 enterprises have pitched and 27 of them are still running. It is estimated that they generate local area sales of £940,000, (plus, those enterprises also directly spend about £177,000 with local suppliers). They employ about 40 full time equivalent employees, with local payroll of about £695,000.” https://reconomycentre.org/home/lef/
Lisa Hawes of Edventure Frome says, “We’re glad to be able to bring an LEF to Frome. It’s such a simple, positive concept that is already proven to contribute to an inclusive, fair and resilient local economy. The evening itself will be informal, connective and fun – an opportunity for us to come together and do something with an immediate, tangible effect.
“The LEF for Frome will be on the evening of 2nd July at the Silk Mill. Tickets are free thanks to funding from Frome Town Council. We’ll share local food, enjoy local music and come together to form a community of support around initiatives we want to see flourish in our town. We can all become “friendly dragons” and invest money, time, resources, skills, enthusiasm, facebook likes and any other kind of support.”
Mayor of Frome, cllr Mark Dorrington said, “This event was the perfect fit for our Community Grants programme and I’m delighted we’ve been able to support it. Entrepreneurs need all kinds of support while they are getting started and this really gives the power to the community to choose what they want to see in Frome and help the local economy to thrive. It also encourages businesses right from the offset to think about good business practice; being sustainable and ethically centred.”
If you’d like to have a say in the types of enterprises you want to see (and support) in Frome please come. Everyone is welcome, tickets are free and space is limited so please book ASAP at www.edventure frome.org/lef
