JOIN in an evening of illustrated talks and Q&A with Jo Bradshaw and Olie Hunter-Smart as they speak about their expeditions to some of the most remote corners of the world.

Jo Bradshaw and Olie Hunter-Smart will be talking of their adventures climbing Mount Everest, kayaking the Amazon River and walking across India amongst others.

The talk will be on Wednesday 13th June at 7.30pm, with doors opening at 7.00pm at the Silk Mill. Refreshments available.

  • Police call for witness after elderly man mugged outside Sainsbury’s. Wiltshire Police are calling for witnesses or anyone who has information to come forward after an elderly man was mugged outside of Sainsbury’s at the end of last month. The man, who is in his 80s, said he was approached by a woman at around 2.30pm on Saturday 28th September, claiming to be collecting money for charity. A statement from Wiltshire Police said, “He gave her some cash and she grabbed him into a hug. “After entering the store and when trying to pay for his shopping he realised that around £60 was missing. “The woman is described as a white woman, around 5ft 6ins tall of a slim build.   • Local mum’s CPR campaign gains national attention. A Melksham mum has taken her campaign for CPR awareness to the national stage, urging all new parents to learn this critical skill after her own experience saving her baby’s life. Over the past few years, Hayley Gardyj, a mother of three from Bowerhill, has been campaigning to ensure that all new parents are given CPR training, following her traumatic experience of giving CPR to her son Brodie when he stopped breathing as a newborn. Recently, Hayley featured in an infant CPR training video produced by the British Red Cross and appeared on Channel 5 News, sharing her powerful story and the importance of CPR training. “I feel that the message is reaching more people and being spread far and wide,” Hayley said. “More people are joining the campaign and sharing the CPR video, including health visitors, midwives, and paediatricians who I work with at HCRG Care Group.   • Mother raises awareness of organ donation after daughter’s life-saving heart transplant. A MOTHER from Melksham has shared her teenage daughter’s extraordinary journey of receiving a heart transplant to encourage more people to consider organ donation. In a show of support, last month the Town Hall was lit up in pink as part of the national campaign to raise awareness. Carlie Robson’s 15-year-old daughter, Ciara Cottle, was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy earlier this year, a condition in which the heart becomes enlarged and struggles to pump blood effectively.   • Local pensioner to sell guitar collection to fund energy bills this winter. A local man says he feels compelled to sell his cherished guitars to cover his energy bills this winter, following the government’s decision to stop the £300 winter fuel payment for millions of pensioners. David Walker, known locally for his involvement in community groups and as the town’s former Carers’ Champion, has described the situation as ‘dismaying’ and ‘disillusioning.’ “It’s disillusioning that I’m having to sell things that mean so much to me, but I have nothing else,” said David.   • Community rallies to support new pizza and music cafe after devastating fire. The community has rallied together to raise funds for a newly opened space offering coffee and pizza alongside vinyl records, which has suffered a devastating fire. Doubles, located at Avonside, had only been open for five weeks before the fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday 14th September.   • Melksham scheme wins BBC ‘Make a Difference’ award. A Melksham-based initiative that recycles and reuses technology has won a BBC Radio Wiltshire Make a Difference Award for its efforts to tackle the UK’s growing e-waste problem. Wiltshire Digital Drive, a community interest company, took home The Green Award at this year’s ceremony for its significant push to reduce technology waste and provide refurbished laptops to families in need.   • Melksham powerlifter prepares for Commonwealth Championships. A POWERLIFTER from Melksham is due to compete in the Commonwealth Bench Press Championships in South Africa this October. Annabel Moloney, who has only been powerlifting for about a year and a half, will travel to Sun City, where she is aiming to lift 100kg in the championship. “The best weight I can lift at the moment is 90kg but I am aiming to lift 100kg,” she said. “I have that goal in mind. Currently, the winner of last year’s competition lifted around 110-115kg.” Annabel was selected to represent England in this year’s championships after competing in the English Women’s Bench Press Championships earlier this year. “I have been strength training ever since I was about 17 years old and gave powerlifting a go, as a way to manage issues with my back,” says Annabel, who works as a nurse at the Royal United Hospital in Bath. “My husband is a powerlifter too, and his coach had back issues, so he suggested I go along.
