FROME Town Band members past and present will host a brass band concert in the Victoria Park bandstand next week in memory of former bandmaster, Tony Light.
Members of the original Frome Town Band, which ceased to be some 25 years ago, will link up with the current Town Band to play a memorial concert for Tony Light who was the bandmaster of the original band for many years who, sadly, passed away recently.
Several members of the original band played at Tony’s funeral and the idea was floated of playing a memorial concert. After contacting ex-members – some of whom were spread across the country ranging from Scotland, Cornwall, Worcester – a band was assembled, pieces of music chosen and rehearsals commencing.
The concert will be split into three segments with the current band playing their selected music, the original town band will then play their choice of music, and finally, the two bands will come together to play several pieces as a massed band.
“It promises to be a moving but entertaining occasion which, in all probability, will not be repeated,” says the organisers.
The memorial concert will be held on Sunday 12th September, 3pm, in the Victoria Park bandstand.
