LOCAL group, PACE, held a surprise party recently to celebrate the wedding anniversary of one of their longest-serving members.
Chair of PACE, Shirley Mason was in on the secret plans for a surprise party in honour of their long serving treasurer David Roy and his wife June, on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary.
Shirley said, “David has been our treasurer for as long as I have been a member of PACE – if not longer. But so much more besides; he is very supportive to any one of us who needs it. He helps with our games and activities and as well as managing our group finances, he’s also an excellent quiz master.”
David spoke about his involvement with PACE by saying, “I have been treasurer since 2005. When I retired, and having a financial background I was more than happy to volunteer with PACE.
“The past 13 years with the group have been so rewarding, even though I have to give them any bad news as well as the good in keeping constant track of our financial position. And I would say to any retirees who have been fortunate enough to enjoy good health all their lives that they would find as I do, great enjoyment in being of use in volunteering. It’s a way of giving back to the community. I recommend it! “
David’s wife June said, “For our anniversary we spent two days in a delightful hotel, followed by a family lunch in a beautiful country house restaurant, but I have been completely overwhelmed by the PACE group’s surprise reception at their Gorehedge venue and we will never forget it.”
