Gardeners are invited to apply for this year’s Hidden Gardens trail, an annual favourite in the Frome Festival line-up.
Hidden Gardens is due to run from 11th to 13th July where dozens of gardens – old and new, big and small – opening their gates to visitors keen to explore the nooks and crannies of horticultural life in Frome.
“Just as the new shoots of snowdrops and daffodils start to appear from the cold dark ground, gardeners across Frome are starting to think about the growing season ahead. Which means it’s already time to decide whether to open your garden for Hidden Gardens of Frome,” says event organiser, Andy Jones.
“Part of Hidden Gardens’ charm is that it’s about so much more than large formal gardens, everyone can join in to share their own successes (and discuss failures) with like-minded people. There’s an additional emphasis this year on the value of gardening for wildlife, with several gardens having been recognised by the Team Wilder scheme run by Somerset Wildlife Trust. So, whether you enjoy huge rolling vistas of flower borders and lawns, a rambling but productive vegetable patch or a small selection of pots and window boxes in a tiny plot, we’re keen to get you involved.”
The Hidden Gardens event is a key source of income for the wider Frome Festival, as all the revenue from the sale of the entry maps goes directly to support the festival. Last year the event raised over £4,500.
In addition, many gardeners sell refreshments or plants in support of their own favourite charity, raising a further £4,000 over the weekend for local organisations.

“Now’s the time to do it and look forward to one of the most enjoyable weekends of the year,” says Andy.
