TRINITY Community Group has launched a project to create a brand new mural in the heart of the Trinity area of Frome.
The Griffin pub and local residents Terry and Paula have offered the sides of their buildings as canvases for the mural. It’s a prime site that is viewed each day by parents and children at Vallis school, visitors to the pub and the many local residents who regularly pass by.
Working in partnership with Frome Town Council, Vallis School, The Griffin and PAAD architects, the group is looking for an artist, or group of artists, that will create something exciting to fill the space.
The group says, “The Trinity area of Frome has 350 years of history, and counting. When it was ‘born’ in 1665, it was a brand new suburb for artisans. Back then, it was one of the first examples of purpose-built industrial housing. And, in the years since, we never stopped pushing forward with new ideas.
“In the 1900s Trinity was one of the UK’s first conservation areas. In fact several books have been written about the, at the time, ground-breaking scheme to preserve its historical buildings. More recently, it was the birthplace of the Independents for Frome who held their first meetings in the Griffin and went on to take over Frome council. Their approach of flatpack democracy has since spread all over the world.
“If you could tell our story and create a mural that will inspire the next generation of independent thinkers in Trinity area, then we want to hear from you.”
