Frome Library is currently offering free creative activities for children until 15th February.
Games and creative tasks are available every day, alongside free hot drinks and special events, including storytelling, illustration and songwriting clubs for young people as well as art and movement workshops for adults.
There are also lunchtime concerts, daily quizzes and craft sessions organised by local arts organisation Terrestrial, which is known for creating playful projects with community groups across the region.
Frome Library is already an official warm space for anyone looking to keep warm this winter; however, Terrestrial has secured a grant from Somerset Community Foundation’s ‘Help Through Winter’ fund to provide extra events and activities to make the library more welcoming.
“We love working in libraries. Anyone can come in and explore without spending any money and there are always interesting people to talk to,” explained Terrestrial’s director, Tom Spencer. “We’re thrilled to have this chance to programme an exciting range of events to make Frome Library feel extra special for a few weeks.
“Our work is about encouraging people to feel like artists. We think something magical happens when you try something new and creative, whatever age you are. So, we hope people will come and pick up a paintbrush, or write one line of a poem, or try to solve one of Jess’ famously difficult quiz questions.”
Terrestrial particularly wants to appeal to families with older children, as libraries have reported that many young people stop visiting around the age of eight. The organisation has programmed several weekly workshops, such as Story Inventors and Young Illustrators, specifically for 8- to 13-year-olds.
All events are free to attend, and the full programme is available at www.terrestrial.org.uk
