An Asda delivery driver in Frome has been praised for saving the life of a 77-year-old customer who fell in his bathroom and banged his head.
Local resident Roger, who suffers from arthritis, had been lying on the floor for nine hours, unable to raise the alarm, until driver Paul Parsons arrived with his weekly groceries.
Paul sensed something was wrong when Roger did not answer the door when he knocked as usual. After he noticed a light was on upstairs, he shouted through the letterbox for Roger and heard his muffled shouts for help. Paul quickly alerted emergency services and got hold of Roger’s neighbours, who managed to get inside the house and helped him look after Roger until an ambulance arrived.
Roger, who has made a good recovery after spending two weeks in hospital, said, “It is no exaggeration to say that if Paul had not heard me and alerted neighbours, then it is quite possible that I might not have survived. He, in effect, saved my life. I owe him a huge debt of gratitude.”
Paul said, “I just did what anyone else would have done. If the same thing had happened to one of my grandparents, I would hope someone would do the same.”
