The winning song of The Climates’ Songwriting Competition has been released and is now available on all streaming platforms. It will also be featured in the International Climate Film Festival’s promotional campaigns.
Somerset resident, Scott O’Hara won the competition earlier this year, with his song ‘Edge of Forever,’ which he recorded in the Bert Jansch studio behind the Cheese and Grain.
“It is a powerful anthem capturing the urgency and hope surrounding global climate action, resonating deeply with listeners,” explained director James Godman who set up the competition, which is an offshoot of The Frome International Climate Film Festival held in May.
Scott O’Hara, who hails from Australia, said, “It was an amazing experience to be chosen from the many high-quality entries in this unique international competition, and then to record the song at Dom Monks’ Bert Jansch Studio as the prize.”
For next year’s competition, the organisers have added a Best Music Video category to the list. “This category aims to recognise and celebrate the artists who are using the powerful combination of music and visual storytelling to highlight critical environmental issues and mobilise action,” explained James.
“Scott O’Hara’s ‘Edge of Forever’ is a wonderful example of the role art can play in raising awareness about climate change. By introducing the Best Climate-Themed Music Video category, we hope to inspire more creative collaborations that amplify the call for environmental action.”
Entries for this category will open on 1st January and close on 1st March with filmmakers and musicians from around the globe invited to submit their work.
“Entries will be judged against criteria including the quality of both the songwriting and the video element, as well as the message linked to the Climate emergency,” said James.
“Once again, the winner will receive a day’s recording at the Bert Jansch Studio in Frome. The winning video will be shown with other winning films at the Cheese and Grain in Frome, with musical winners invited to perform their winning song live.”
