Oakfield School in Frome was the backdrop for a very unusual visit recently.
Four-legged educational officer, Louis the rescue dog, met with school children to fly the Bath Cats & Dogs Home flag, and brush shoulders with one of the youngest mayors in Britain – Cllr Dickon Moore.
Bath Cats & Dogs Home educational officer, Sheila Reed, and her rescue dog Louis met with a group of around 140 Year Six students (10-11 year olds) to carry out an educational talk on responsible pet ownership.
Sheila said, “As an ex-Bath Cats & Dogs Home resident Louis is a great doggy ambassador and was excellent with all the children.”
As a former pupil at the school, the Mayor of Frome (Cllr Dickon Moore) also attended the talk to hear first-hand what the Bath-based charity is doing to encourage responsible pet ownership in schools across Wiltshire.
Cllr Moore and Frome Council recently awarded Bath Cats & Dogs Home a grant to continue with its educational programme for 2013/2014 in schools across Wiltshire.
The charity is actively targeting schools in and around Frome to encourage them to sign up to the animal charity’s 2014 educational programme.
