This year’s Argos Toy Exchange provided a bumper New Year bonus for some of the UK’s most disadvantaged children.
The Barnardo’s shop in Frome received 176 additional bags of donations, with a combined estimated value of more than £2,000, thanks to the partnership with the leading toy retailer.
During the eight-week campaign with Argos, donations across the South West rose by almost 2,700 bags worth an estimated total of more than £32,000, while the national figure was more than 55,000 bags with an estimated value of more than £660,000.
Barnardo’s director of retail and trading, Gerard Cousins said, “This is the third year of the partnership and we are delighted that the Argos Toy Exchange has again proved such a success, particularly in such a challenging economic climate. The donations we received ahead of the busy Christmas period gave a substantial boost to our stock and provided a real festive bonus.
“Donations are absolutely essential to keep our stores trading. All profits from selling these toys are ploughed directly into Barnardo’s work with vulnerable and disadvantaged children, so a huge thank-you to everyone who has taken part.”
Amy Whidburn, head of corporate responsibility for Argos said, “As a family retailer, we are delighted that the money raised is going to help support some of Barnardo’s vital causes such as early years development and vocational skills training. We know how much of an impact this will make to disadvantaged families and would like to thank our customers for their generosity.”
Argos customers were encouraged to donate their pre-loved toys at stores, to be sold through Barnardo’s network to raise money to benefit some of the most disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. Those making donations were rewarded with a voucher offering £5 off a £35 spend on toys.
