LARGER than life former football manager Barry Fry is to appear at Frome Town Football Club as part of a sportsman dinner.
The former Birmingham City, Southend United and Peterborough United manager is to appear on stage on Thursday 27th March 2014 where he will share some of the stories from his time in football.
Barry Fry had a fairly uneventful playing career despite starting at Manchester United where he failed to make an appearance before later playing for Bolton, Luton and Leyton Orient. His managerial career however, was the complete opposite as his opinionated thoughts often caused controversy.
Fry also starred in a documentary called ‘There’s Only One Barry Fry’. The programme included some of Fry’s dressing room antics, including a row with Mick Bodley and his promise to get the Posh out of Division Two. Fry’s Peterborough United were later the subject of Sky One’s 2006 documentary series Big Ron Manager in which Ron Atkinson was bought in as a troubleshooter to help Fry and the management team during Peterborough’s quest for promotion. They finished 10th.
Tickets are priced at £30 on general sale and £25 for supporters club members. A table of eight costs £200.
The club is also looking for a sponsor for the event. The company will receive publicity with the sponsor’s details being on all branding including programme, tickets and posters, as well as online advertising and radio where possible.
