FROME College welcomed their ‘Class of 2019’ and their families and friends to the Memorial Theatre on Thursday 21st November, to celebrate record GCSE exam results this year.
Jane Davis, communications officer for Frome College reports, “Following a warm welcome to the presentation evening from principal, Ms Reynolds, the audience were entertained by music from our talented students.
“Our VIP guest of honour this year was BBC 1 TV presenter, Sarah-Jane Bungay, who helped present awards and gave an inspirational speech about her career since leaving Frome College herself. She also highlighted the fantastic opportunities and choices that young people have available, and the diverse paths and journeys different careers can take you on.
“Ms Reynolds also welcomed Frome mayor, Mark Dorrington, and deputy mayor, Anita Collier, who joined her on stage to give exam certificates to students with their house heads. For the first time at Frome College, Ms Reynolds introduced new prestigious cups to individual students for their outstanding achievements, which she asked Sarah-Jane to present.
“At the end of the awards ceremony, Ms Reynolds paid tribute to her dedicated team of staff, the support and commitment from our families and to our students for their hard work surpassing so many national averages.”
She said, “We are incredibly proud of the achievements and progress of all our students who have shown great resilience over the last three years, facing tougher exams and national changes to qualifications and assessments.”
The college continued, “To conclude the evening, Max Wide, chair of governors, gave the vote of thanks. He said the exam results show why we are the best option for the young people in the area. He congratulated Ms Reynolds and the college staff, and gave thanks to all the parents and students, whose vital combined contribution is so important to support everything we do at the school.”
