FAIR Frome will be hosting a Come Together Frome Event on Sunday 15th January at Frome Library with music, activities and afternoon tea.
This free afternoon of entertainment will run from 1.30-4pm and is for those of all ages and interests.
The event is part of Fair Frome’s 2017 programme of community meals and the charity is partnering with Friends of Frome Library and Active and In Touch Frome to offer a selection of activities offered by several organisations in the town – free tasters, demos, workshops and games.
“Community dining is a very important and valuable activity undertaken by Fair Frome,” said Wendy Miller-Williams, Coordinator at Fair Frome.
“Come Together Frome Sunday will be a very special event where people can not only meet others but also take part in a range of activities, workshops and games – whatever takes their fancy. They can also sign up to attend the group or activity on an on-going basis. For anyone looking for a new hobby or interest, come along and see what’s on offer and you can also enjoy afternoon tea with us.”
Lucia Chadwick, co-ordinator of Active and In Touch Frome, said, “Our volunteers help people who feel lonely or have become isolated through the circumstances life has thrown at them whether it be bereavement, anxiety, mobility issues or simply because they are new to the area.
“This time of year can be a challenging time for many, so what better way to beat the winter blues than a free celebration event to showcase all the groups, activities and organisations out there in Frome that make our community such a cohesive, thriving place to live in.”
The Active and In Touch Frome Volunteer befriending project works in partnership with Somerset You Can Do (SYCD) who manage the large network of Active Living groups across Somerset that provide people aged 50 and over the opportunity to take part in local activities, enjoy the company of others, and access all sorts of information. In Mendip SYCD provide support to a large number of diverse groups including, amongst others, Frome Carers Group, Frome Day Care Active Living, and the PACE Health and Wellbeing group.
A number of activities are already planned but there is the capacity for more social and craft groups in and around Frome to attend and either demonstrate their craft and/or recruit new members.
