On a warm day at Fromefield, Frome 1sts hosted the league leaders Bedminster and went into the game with high hopes despite still searching for the first victory of their season.
The day started with a minute silence for a club legend Ken Hobbs who had sadly passed away.
Bedminster won the toss and elected to bowl with the pitch looking like helping the bowlers early on.
The innings got off to a bad start with opener Gullock being bowled for 0. In the second over Dave Dredge also went without scoring. Frome failed to recover losing five of their top six batsman without scoring, Knapp taking 4 of those wickets and well supported by Sellars.
Cowler arrived at the crease with the score at 14-5 in the sixth over, he soon went on the attack scoring three boundaries before being bowled for 14. Frome’s only resistance was the 45 run partnership from Neal and captain Sanger for the 8th wicket that got Frome up to 74 before 3 quick wickets fell to Carter and Frome were finally bowled out for 79.
In reply Frome went on the attack with aggressive fields looking to take wickets, but an early counter attack from skipper Elphick put the game out of Frome’s reach. Ed Neal bowled the dangerous Elphick for 16 and removed Alleyne after a fantastic catch by Hamblin at slip which got Frome their one and only point in the match.
Frome travel to Minehead on Saturday looking to get off the mark and put in a much improved display.
