FROME band Beef Unit are following up the release of their EP ‘Modern Primitive’ last month with a gig at the Garden Café on 7th July.
Lucy McMahon, a partner of one of the band members says, “The band formed in mid-2016, although its roots can be traced back to a mediocre secondary school in a Southampton suburb in the 1980s, where vocalists and guitar/keyboard players Peter and Anthony met and started their experiments with ‘aural noise terrorism’.
“Accidentally reunited in Frome in 2013 and still just as angry with the world, Peter and Anthony met bassist Tim and drummer Jim and Beef Unit was born. Tim and Jim bring an exotic Kentish flavour to the band’s sound, which one audience member at their last gig described as
“A musical treat for the ears. While being visually satisfied, I left feeling entertained, informed, confused and sexually awakened. Is it punk? Is it electro? It’s definitely not jazz.”
Following on from the success of their last two gigs, Beef Unit are playing the Garden Café as part of Frome Festival on 7th July and will be supported by new local band Mother’s Eyes in their first live performance.
McMahon says, “Too punk to appear in the programme, but punk enough for free entry, and with a band name to confuse the venue’s vegetarian clientele, Beef Unit will be performing tracks from the EP as well as new material.”
