Frome’s leading belly dance teachers, Barbara and Raheesha are celebrating a successful year of fun and fitness with their Belly Dance Wednesdays.
The two teachers got together in 2014 to join forces and bring the people of Frome a studio dedicated to middle eastern dance and its many off shoots.
Formerly at the Hubnub, they moved to the Steiner Academy in September last year where they are enjoying the lovely, bespoke space. “It was our wish to create a centre point for this and other eclectic dance styles to be taught in Frome,” says Raheesha. “And one year on it feels like a real success with over 40 women having crossed through our doors during that time.”
With over 20 years’ belly dance experience between them, Barbara and Raheesha are very excited to welcome new beginners to their Wednesday evening classes. After a successful free taster evening, the two teachers would like to extend a warm welcome to anyone who would like to sign up to their fun and friendly classes.
“One of the joys of teaching dance is seeing women gain confidence and really enjoying each other’s company. Dance is also a really great stress reliever,” says Barbara who teaches the contemporary belly dance style known as ‘tribal’.
“In this style we fuse middle eastern dance with flamenco and indian dance styles to create a truly beautiful style of movement. What’s more we always dance as a group so you’re never alone!”
Belly Dance Wednesdays runs weekly and students can sign up to do both classes at a discount rate or just one. “But beware,” adds Barbara, “Belly dance is addictive!”
