Best advice on offer for lockdown DIY-ers at new tool hire company

LOCAL DIY-ers inspired to make improvements to their homes and gardens after over 14 months of ‘staying at home’, can now get all the advice and support they need to complete their projects from new hire company, Somerset Hire Services.

The independent tool and plant hire specialist – which opened last month on Whitworth Road, Marston Trading Estate – has seen a boom in business because of the recent lockdowns. 

“During lockdown people rediscovered a love for DIY,” explains owner of Somerset Hire Services, Luke George. “And everyone, especially at the moment, seems to be wanting to do things in their gardens. 

“As people have only been able to entertain in their gardens, everyone wants to make their space nice, tidy and welcoming for others.

“So we’ve been very lucky – we’ve been one of those businesses that has almost gained from the pandemic, rather than suffered. So we feel incredibly lucky.”

Visitors to Somerset Hire Services can hire a range of equipment, including power tools, garden machinery, building equipment, scaffold towers, through to diggers and dumpers – “Everything someone would need for a little job around the house or build an extension or do some decorating,” said Luke.

“And, as a lot of our customer-base are DIY customers, all our staff are very well trained, knowledgeable people that can help with advice about what the best tools are for the job.

“We’re ready and set up to help deal with people who might not have the best knowledge about what they are doing – but we can help them with that, we can give advice on how to get what they want to achieve, and the best equipment to hire.”

Prior to starting up his own business – which also goes under the name of Dorset Hire Services, with branches in Shaftesbury and Evercreech – Luke worked at a local Frome hire company, where he found his feet in the hire industry.

And as a Frome resident for 30 years, Luke says his local knowledge will help to enhance the customer experience on offer at Somerset Hire Services.

“For us we pride ourselves on the personal touch – I know Frome very well – and we are very much a hands-on independent hire company, and I’m very hands-on too – I’m always out and about on delivery.

“And the staff are very experienced. We have two people working in the Frome branch that have worked in the town, and in hire before. So not only do we have everything someone could need, we also  offer the best advice.”

Somerset Hire Services is open Monday to Friday 7.30am until 5pm, and Saturdays 8am until 12pm.
