A FROME brewery has stepped its production up a notch by moving to a bigger building after 17 years in the beer business.
Milk Street Brewery started in an outbuilding at The Griffin pub in 1999, where it stayed until this summer when it moved to a new unit on Commerce Park to cope with the growing operation.
The award-winning brewer is now branching out into making canned drinks and to sending its beer further afield.
Owner of the pub and brewery Rik Lyall said, “I’m really happy with the quality of beer coming out of our new place and we have so much more room.
“It was getting silly at The Griffin. We had been shoehorning new equipment in and had to take the roof off a couple of times, but the new unit is a lot more spacious, which makes the whole brewing process more enjoyable.
“It means we can get back to making beers we didn’t have room to do at the old place, and also branch out into making new ones and starting to package our own stuff in cans and mini-kegs.
“We’re excited about the canned beer because it keeps the drink fresh for longer as no sunlight can get in and change the flavour. We currently distribute across the south west and up to the M25, and we’re hoping to push out further.
“We’re putting all of our efforts into developing these new products and getting our drinks out there; it’s an exciting time and the past five years have definitely seen Milk Street Brewery step out from the shadow of The Griffin.”
